The Parkside Music Curriculum

Early years foundation stage

In EYFS, music is taught within the Expressive Arts and Design area of the curriculum, focusing on Creating with Materials.

Years 1-6

Music is taught through five strands which run through our curriculum:

Our curriculum is designed as a spiral curriculum: Pupils return to the same skills and knowledge again and again during their time in primary school; Each time a skill or area of knowledge is revisited it is covered with greater depth; Upon returning to a skill, prior knowledge is utilised so pupils can build upon previous foundations, rather than starting again

Details of the units covered within the Parkside music curriculum can be found on each class's yearly overview document.

We have weekly Singing Assemblies for the whole school, and each year group takes part in an annual production which includes many elements of musical development. Our preschool class take part in weekly musical sessions with a specialist teacher.

Our Year 5 and 6's take part in the Young Voices concert at the O2 Arena.
