Year 3

Year 3 is a big year; moving from key stage 1 to key stage 2 can be daunting but it brings about a lot of independence too.

Welcome from the class teacher

Hi, I'm Mr Patrick-Dawson. I've been lucky enough to teach at Parkside since 2020 and it is never boring; every day is a unique challenge; it's different and as much about teaching children new things as them educating me. I love teaching and I'm passionate about children reading - it really is the key to everything!

Year 3 is a big year; moving from key stage 1 to key stage 2 can be daunting, but it brings about a lot of independence too. We learn about the Stone Age and the Romans in history; how old the Earth is and natural disasters in geography; in science we learn all about the human body, how rocks are formed, and we make our own fossils. In maths we begin to develop formal arithmetic skills with the four operations; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as well as working super hard on our 3, 4 and 8 times tables. We focus on using punctuation consistently in English lessons and nearly always hook to a topic, whether this is writing an adventure story about a flood, or writing instructions on how to wash a woolly mammoth. It's a fun year!
