PSHE / SMSC / British Values

At Parkside, we aim to prepare children to be global citizens now and in their future roles within a global community. We promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of children, preparing them for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences for later life.

The Parkside PSHE Curriculum

PSHE, including SMSC, RSE and British Values, is an integral part of the whole school curriculum, and is therefore often taught within another subject area.

Pupils are taught specific areas of PSHE using ‘Discovery Education’ which is a spiral, progressive scheme of work, aims to prepare children for life.

This covers six broad topics including:

At Parkside, in addition to Relationships Education, we also teach aspects of Sex Education that is covered in our Science Curriculum. Alongside this we teach about different kinds of relationships, including same sex relationships, and gender identity because it is important that our children should have an understanding of the full diversity of the world they live in and be prepared for life in modern Britain. The Sex Education aspects of PSHE are also taught through Discovery Education.

British Values, and Social, Moral and Spiritual Education is embedded through weekly assemblies, experiences, and discussions in class. The education through instilling knowledge within these areas, and through our school values is both pre-planned and responsive.
