Sport

Sporting activity features highly at Parkside. We believe in providing opportunities for all children to try as many activities as possible during their time with us and we are very fortunate that our extensive grounds help us to do this. Both our PE lessons and all year round after-school sporting clubs, allow children to develop their skills.

Sports teams

At Parkside we take pride in our sports teams and we endeavour to enter all the sporting competitions that are held in the locality, often fielding more than one team. We also hold many of our own intra-school competitions for our Key Stage 2 classes. These allow the children to practise the skills they have learnt in friendly competitive situations.

Promoting exercise

As well as twice weekly PE lessons, we see the importance in providing opportunities for all children to be active throughout the day. The school has recently installed a new outdoor gym, which is accessible for all year groups. We hope that promoting these opportunities for movement and exercise at primary school will lead to children developing a positive mindset towards activity as they transition to secondary school and beyond.

Sports Days

Each school year, usually during the summer term, Parkside hosts a Sports Day for pupils to take part in and for families to come and enjoy. This day is full of sporting activities which relate to the outdoor athletics skills which the children have been practising throughout the year. Our Preschool also take part in a variety of sporting challenges and have a weekly session with Boost Fitness coach Nikki  which focuses on early physical development skills through games and interactive resources.

Each year, children will have a block of lessons; some of these sessions are run at a local primary school and some take place at our nearest leisure centre. This time in the water is carefully planned out so that above all children feel comfortable, confident and safe in the water. As more instruction is given, children begin to develop the different swimming strokes and swim greater distances.

Swimming - Year 2-6

As an island nation with a wide range of rivers, lakes and canals, water is everywhere. At some point in their life, every child will be around water. By the time a child is ready to leave primary school they should be able to swim 25 metres, know how to get out of trouble if they fall into water, know the dangers of water and understand how to stay safe when playing in and around it. To assist children in achieving these things Parkside offers swimming provision from Year 2 right up to Year 6.

Platinum standard

We have been recognised for our sporting achievements by achieving the highest award for the Sports Mark - platinum standard - in the School Games award, in recognition of our participation in sporting events in and out of school.
